ALUMINIUM WELDING INFORMATION

Aluminium Mig Welding with GYS M3 Spool Gun

Aluminium - Tig and Mig Wire for the Smash Repair Industry

  • 5356 - Almg5 - 4.5 to 6% Magnesium Content - also referred to as marine grade
  • 4043 - AlSi5 - 4.5 to 6% Silicon Content used for castings - excellent properties for minimising Solidification Cracking
  • 4047 - AlSi12 - 11 to 13% Silcon Content - castings, automotive structural, excellent properties for minimising Solidification Cracking

Aluminium Sheet Metal Grades

  • 5005 - General Purpose Grade - weld with 5356, 4043 wire, tight radius can be used while forming
  • 5356 - Marine Grade - weld with 5356, work hardens while forming, use large radius to avoid cracking
  • 5083 - Structural Grade, weld with 5356, work hardens while forming, use extra large radius to avoid cracking. Used in vehicle armour plating and marine applications
  • 2024 - Aircraft Structural, large bend radius is needed while forming. DO NOT WELD!
